Hartfield Academy Boys Soccer Team Become Two-Time State Champions!
Hartfield Academy’s Boys Soccer team was prepared to defend their State Title when they arrived to the championship game on Saturday, February 27th. Lead by Coach Jake Benton who is in his 7th year of coaching at Hartfield, the team dominated against Pillow Academy.
During the game, the Hawks maintained 70% possession and took 30 shots against Pillow. The defense was at their best and allowed Pillow to take a mere four shots with two of the four coming from a set piece.
Hawks won the game with a final score of 3-0. Gage Sorey scored the first and second goal with assists from Blake Primos and Zach Sorey. Then, Zach Sorey sealed up the game with the third goal from an assist by Luke Moore.
Coach Benton could not be more impressed by his team: “The boys stayed committed to one another and challenged each other every training session. I think that’s the most important part of sports. Always striving to play to a standard and not settling for just winning. Winning is really just a byproduct of holding each other accountable. I’m extremely proud of this team and I’m excited for what they can accomplish in the future.”
The boys will return next season, ready to take on a new division, but with the same purpose of living out their giftedness for the Lord. “Coach Benton has built a program that’s different” said Jim DeLaughter, “He is a challenging and demanding coach that gets the best from his players. He sets a high standard and does the difficult work to help them reach that standard. But what makes Jake unique is his desire for his players to love Christ and display that love through how they play the game and carry themselves on and off the field.”
Hartfield Academy is fully accredited by both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the MidSouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS), the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Southern Association of independent Schools (SAIS).
