David Horner Receives the ESGR Patriot Award

On May 15, 2023, David Horner was presented with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award. Hartfield's Spanish Instructor and Choir/Drumline Director, Frank Porter nominated Mr. David Horner, Head of School, for this award. Mr. Porter is currently deployed as the Chaplain with the Army Chaplain Corps.
The Patriot Award allows an employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member, to nominate individual supervisors and bosses for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and his or her family. This award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.

With Mr. Porter's deployment, his wife, Emily, and son, Grayson, were able to be a part of today's presentation. Joined together with faculty and staff, the Patriot Award was presented to Mr. Horner. ESGR Representative, Joyce Robinson, and State Chaplain, Colonel Cregg Puckett were also in attendance.

"David is the Head of School for Hartfield Academy in Flowood, MS. He along with the High School Principal, Jim DeLaughter, and Middle School Principal, Angela Trigg, have gone above and beyond for me and my family during my current deployment. When I notified the school administration of my being involuntarily transferred to a deploying aviation unit they were more than encouraging and supportive. I was reassured that I would have a place back on the school faculty once I return back home and that they would also make sure my family would be supported while I was away. During my initial mobilization training the school ensured there would be no financial issues, which is something they did without my request or prompting. Prior to being called up for a year-long deployment, the school administration was very supportive of times I would be away for extended drill periods or duty. I never received any hesitation or frustration from the school and I am grateful. Nominating them for this award is just one way in which I can thank them for what they mean to me, my family, and my military career." shared Frank Porter, when nominating Mr. Horner for this award.

This award was truly an honor for Hartfield to receive. We are thankful for Frank Porter's service and dedication in all things. We are patiently awaiting his return home! Be in prayer for Frank, as well as his Brigade, and his family. We are honored they are a part of the Hartfield Family!
