Service Opportunities

Teaching our students to love and serve others is very important to us. Every year, everyone in our school participates in either a service project or a mission trip.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Students in K5 and 1st grade partner together to collect books for the local bookstore, Impression Books.
 
2nd Grade: The Little Lighthouse is a school for children with disabilities.  Our second graders spend the year discussing compassion and how Jesus loves everyone.  The Little Lighthouse is a non-profit, therefore, they rely on donations.  Each year our 2nd grade teachers get a list of needed supplies to collect.  The second graders deliver the items and they get to spend the morning playing with the children.
 
3rd Grade: The month of February, our third graders discuss love and what it must be like for soldiers to be separated from their families.  Third grade will have guest speakers (soldiers) come to the classroom and discuss what it is like to be deployed, what soldiers do while deployed, and what it is like being separated from their families. During the month, the students collect supplies to send to overseas soldiers.  On Valentines Day, the students will write letters to a deployed soldier, and with the help of their parents, pack the care package and then pray over the package.
 
4th grade: In November, the 4th grade will start talking about Operation Christmas Child. They have a video that they watch about Operation Christmas Child to learn about the program and how it benefits others.  Fourth grade also discusses the needs, wants, and putting others ahead of themselves. The students put the packages together at school and pray over the boxes before they are mailed out.
 
5th grade: The 5th grader's partner with the Mustard Seed.  In September, the 5th grade will collect gift cards to take to the Mustard Seed.  In October, before they visit the Seedsters, 5th graders will watch a video on Mustard Seeds website to see what the Seedsters hobbies are. That way the students can get a better understanding of adults with special needs, their physical limitations, yet learn and understand that they are people just like us.  The 5th graders will play games with them, sing karaoke, and eat lunch with them.  Our 5th graders talk about compassion and how God makes everyone different.  We must love others more than ourselves.  Mustard Seed is also invited back to visit our 5th graders here on campus.  Some of them become pen pals and write to each other throughout the year.
