Mia Wheeler Chosen as Player of the Week

Senior and multi-sport athlete, Mia Wheeler, has always been one to watch. Her hard work and humble leadership shines through in everything she does, which is why it is of no surprise to Hawk fans that she was recently awarded the Mississippi Scoreboard Performance Therapy Player of the Week this month! As a testament to this well-deserved honor, Mia’s Lady Hawks Basketball coaches weigh in.
As quoted in a recent Mississippi Scoreboard article, Head Coach Benton Ingram says, “Mia is a quiet leader who works hard every day and loves to compete. She is an incredible teammate who is loved by everyone who knows her.”

Benton continues, “Mia’s effectiveness reaches far beyond her ability to score and rebound. She has a calming demeanor that gives her teammates confidence to overcome any challenge. That leadership was on display this week as she helped her team find a way to compete and pull out important district wins.”

Assistant Coach Trudy Dawkins agrees: “Mia is an exceptional athlete with an extreme amount of natural talent, enhanced by her amazing work ethic. She is the ideal teammate in that she leads by example, encourages all of her teammates during practices and games, and makes sure to be there for them off of the court as well, through whatever they may be facing.

A common theme running through descriptions of Mia is her hard-working attitude. “(Mia) has lots of determination and the desire to excel,” continues Dawkins. “Since day one, she has brought nothing but a positive impact to the team. She's a force to be reckoned with on the court, causing many teams to alter their defense to attempt to stop her.”

According to her coaches, the week of games upon which this award was chosen was a particularly brutal one. “By the end of the week, our girls were tired and sore - but they, along with Mia, pushed through pain and discomfort. Mia never stopped and she pushed her teammates to finish strong....and they did just that!”

Congratulations on all the hard work, Mia! Good luck to you and the rest of the Lady Hawks this season!
