Hartfield Students Raise Thousands for Breast Cancer Awareness

Each October, we honor those affected by breast cancer and raise awareness. This year, four Hartfield Academy students, Ava Grantham, Kadence Dunson, Ella Crimm, and AC Gilbert, stepped forward as ViPink Ambassadors, raising thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society and showing what it means to love those around us.
For each of these girls, becoming a ViPink Ambassador was about more than just fundraising, it was a calling to serve others. “I wanted to do this to make good friendships with people who have kind hearts and good morals, and to help support families struggling with cancer,” said AC Gilbert, who raised an incredible $3,500. As a whole, these girls raised $12,000 for the American Cancer Society!

For Ava Grantham, the cause was deeply personal. “I wanted to become a ViPink Ambassador because cancer is very important to me. When my mom got diagnosed with cancer, it grew us closer and helped me grow in my faith,” she shared.

Each ambassador found creative ways to raise funds and awareness. AC and Ella teamed up for lemonade stands at the Castlewoods golf course. Ella hosted a pop-up event at her home, sharing that “it was really important to me to support others who are struggling or going through hard things because I would want people to do the same for me.”

Ava took a personal approach. She made phone calls to friends and family to share her story. “When I was fundraising, I personally called everyone telling them what cancer meant to me,” she said.

Kadence and her mom worked together to reach out to family and friends, touched by how many were willing to give. “It was so special to see how willing everyone was to support,” she said.

Through the ViPink Ambassador program, these students not only raised funds but also grew spiritually. For Ella, the experience was a reminder of gratitude. “Being a part of ViPink has taught me to always be grateful for what I have, even when I feel like things aren’t going my way.” Ava reflected on how this opportunity gave her perspective: “ViPink taught me that there are so many people affected by breast cancer. My family is not alone in this journey of cancer. I can help make a difference.” And Kadence summed it up perfectly: “It taught me the importance of service and how meaningful it is to lift others up and show love through action.”

Above all, each of these girls sees their efforts as a way to glorify God. “Serving my community has helped me glorify God by shining His light through me,” said Ella. “I hope that God can continue to use me to serve others.” Ava shared, “Knowing that God used me to help bring awareness for a cause that is so personal to me humbles me.” Kadence added, “By serving others and being able to make new relationships, I felt like I was able to share God’s love and be a light to those around me.”

Thank you, Ava, Kadence, AC and Ella for serving and being a Christ-like example to those around you!
