A look into Hartfield’s First-Ever Middle School Musical:

March 3, 2023 marked the first-ever Hartfield middle school musical! Sixth - eighth graders performed ‘Waiters’ which included fun music, common teenage story-line, and an ingrained biblical worldview message of waiting on the Lord and His plan for our lives. Both Mrs. Jolly and Ms. Hatcliff had the opportunity to put on the show together! It was a neat common thread that led them to choose ‘Waiters’ for our students. “Both Mrs. Jolly and I grew up on and worked over the years on musicals written by the author of "Waiters" and knew it was the perfect way to introduce these Middle Schoolers to the process of preparing for a musical” shared Ms. Hatcliff. We’d say the show was a hit!
With the talent of Ms. Hatcliff, Upper School Director of Fine Arts, combined with the talent of Mrs. Jolly, Director of Elementary Music, the show was meant for success! Through Hartfield’s eleven years, this was their first show to come together and work on. Ms. Hatcliff described it as “refreshing and inspiring”. It was a neat experience to see the different strengths pulled with each side as they worked to bring the musical together. We are thankful for their hard work!

With every show comes a favorite moment! Mrs. Jolly shares that her favorite moment was “the song "You Can't Wait." The song was fun, upbeat, and had cute choreography (by Megan)”. Ms. Hatcliff’s favorite moment also dealt with the kids having fun! “The look on each of their faces as they are dancing, singing, or nailing a scene makes it obvious they are having the best time and are proud of themselves for accomplishing something they were nervous about in the first place.” We could not have said it better. That’s what this musical was made for - reaching out of your comfort zone and trying something new!
Thank you to everyone who was involved! With the way the first one turned out, we expect many more middle school musicals in Hartfield’s future!
