Hartfield Worship Team Mentors Young Students

Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, high school and middle school students gather in the theater to worship our Jesus! These high school students are given the opportunity to mentor the rising middle school students that will soon make up the worship team. This is a time students can learn from each other and bond over their interests and talents. What an amazing way to use the gifts the Lord has given!
Our student worship team is leading by example by pouring into young students through mentorship. Webster Dictionary defines mentoring as teaching or giving advice or guidance to someone, such as a less experienced person or child. We all know learning from someone older or more experienced is always helpful, but what does the Bible say about it? The Bible gives us a perfect example of mentorship through Jesus’ life. Jesus mentored His disciples during His ministry on earth. In fact, He said anyone who serves Him must follow Him (John 12:26). In the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20), Jesus told His followers to "make disciples of all nations." Making disciples involves much more than giving people a set of rules to follow: it includes living with them and helping them to grow in Jesus. That is mentoring.

The Bible also tells older Christians to teach younger Christians (Titus 2). In verse 7, Paul urges Titus to "show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works." Paul is urging Titus to be more than just a preacher; he is to be a disciple in helping the church in Crete to grow. That is mentoring.

More than just teaching our middle school students how to play an instrument or sing in a particular tone, our high school students are involved in teaching our middle school students how to worship Jesus through music. What a special way to worship the Lord!
