Hartfield Students Observe Black History Month Through a Biblical Worldview
Throughout the month of February, Hartfield classes took the opportunity to honor some of our nation's historical figures in observance of Black History Month. In keeping with year-long engaging and Christ-centered instruction, teachers incorporated elements that honor America's well-known influential figures into weekly instruction and what the Bible had to say. Classrooms provided a chance to celebrate the creative God who “made from one man every nation of mankind” (Acts 17:26), and the redemptive beauty of his Son who, with his own blood, “ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9).
Elementary classrooms learned about historical figures and their impact on the world, such as Emmett Chappelle's scientific explorations, Mae Jemison's bravery as the first black woman to travel into space, and Shirley Ann Jackson's scientific research that allows us to communicate in ways we do today. We wanted to show our students how amazing these men and women were. We also wanted to highlight the importance that each one of our students is different than the next, but we were all created, by God, for a purpose.
Upper Elementary students took to pen and paper to share what they have learned from their study of these historical figures. Through each classroom activity, students have been able to see the impact kindness, strength and the love of Christ can have on the world. By teaching our students about these brave individuals, we are teaching them that no matter what, with the strength of God, we can stand up for what is right and show love!
How blessed we are to serve our God, who is unchanged in His love, care, and provision for his children. He even provides ways for us to spread His love and care to others through loving our neighbors intentionally and consistently in various ways.
