On the first weekend in December, eighteen Hartfield students took the stage to perform in this year’s production of “The Nutcracker”. Mississippi Central Dance, Mississippi Metropolitan Ballet, and Ballet Mississippi were among some of the companies that put on a beautiful show in the Jackson area!
It looks like we have a talented group of dancers! The dancers who represented Hartfield included Emerson Harkins (12), Meredith Dees (12), Carlysle Harkins (10), Linnie Moon (10), Jensen Makamson (10), Brenda Alexander (9), Bryleigh Alexander (7), Anna Kate Holly (6), Mary Travis Bowman (4), Aly Holloway (4), Ellah Holmes (4), Elizabeth Brister (3), Andi Claire Brown (2), Mabry Martin (2), Merrill Gunter (2), Parks Kimball (2), Scarlet Brister (1), and Lyla Holloway (1).
As a dancer, performances are the most exciting time, as students get to be on a real stage and perform alongside other dancers. They get to share this exciting time with their parents, relatives, and friends. For most, it is really a time to shine and show everything they have accomplished during their hard work in practice. We are extremely proud of each of our students!
Let’s hear from our two Hartfield seniors who helped bring “The Nutcracker” to life this year: Emerson Harkins and Meredith Dees.
Both Emerson and Meredith began dancing at a young age. Watching “The Nutcracker” as a little girl is always a special tradition and a dream to be a part of! Emerson and Meredith described this Nutcracker experience as a “dream come true”. “Being a part of the nutcracker is so special to me because I grew up loving it and have loved getting to be a part of it because so many people enjoy watching it! This was a very special Nutcracker because it was my last one and I got to perform with my sister.”, shared Emerson. Meredith shared her favorite experience was “the friends I made and simply just getting being able to be a part of it all”. Our seniors had an amazing experience of participating in Central Mississippi Dance’s first-ever Nutcracker performance - this will be one they will never forget! But a beautiful production means countless hours in the studio. Both girls expressed that months of rehearsals lead up to this big day and the hard work “definitely paid off”. Congratulations on an outstanding performance to the Snow Queen, Emerson Harkins, and the Dew Drop Fairy, Meredith Dees!
