Hawks Making History: JV Cheer Competes in the NCA High School Nationals

What a weekend! The Hartfield JV Cheerleaders traveled to Dallas, TX to compete for the first time at the NCA High School Nationals. The girls competed Saturday and Sunday against the best of the best teams from across the United States!
We are proud of these girls for having passion and grit for the sport they love. They came home second in the nation in the Junior High Intermediate Crowd-Leading division and 7th in the nation in the Large Junior High Gameday division! These girls represented Hartfield so well, and we are amazed at their accomplishments!
We had the opportunity to hear from Ann Phelps Hooks and Harper Neese, two ninth graders on the team. Let’s hear about their experience:
What was your favorite part about the nationals experience?
Ann Phelps: My favorite part was spending time with the team for my last few moments on the mat and outside of the competition. It was also an eye-opening experience going into a national competition with these girls because of the growth we have had this season. Our coaches were also a really big part of our experience never giving up on us and always pushing us to be our best throughout the weekend.
Harper: My favorite part was getting to do something new with a team I love, overall it was an amazing experience and I would love to do it again.
What were your feelings going into the competition and then after the awards?
Anna Phelps: Going into the competition, I was ready to showcase what we had been working on all year but the nerves were high. It was a bittersweet moment with the whole team competing because it was the freshman's last performance on JV. After we competed, the emotions kicked in knowing that we had left it all on the mat for the final time. Going into awards I was sad knowing that this would be my last, with a team I would truly miss. After the awards, I was extremely proud of what we had accomplished and wouldn't trade the experience and the learning opportunity for anything.
Harper: My feelings started as nerves and excitement, but after awards I felt relieved and happy that the work through the whole year had paid off!

More than just accomplishments and a good time, this experience brought together a team that loves cheerleading! They are passionate about what they do and they represent Hartfield well!

Way to go girls!  Go Hawks!
