Putting First Things First: A Kingdom Vision at Hartfield Academy

At Hartfield Academy, we believe that what we pursue, and the order in which we pursue it, shapes everything. In a world full of noise and distraction, our school-wide theme for the year, First Things First, serves as a steady reminder to focus on what matters most.
Inspired by Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you,” this theme invites our community to align every part of life with God’s purposes. It’s not just a verse we memorize; it’s a truth we are learning to live out with intention.

Putting Jesus first isn’t limited to our chapel services, what we call ‘Awakening’, or Bible classes. It informs every part of who we are—how we think, how we lead, how we learn, and how we compete. Whether a student is solving a complex math problem, crafting a compelling essay, performing on stage, or giving their all in competition, our goal is the same: that their work would flow from a heart fully devoted to Christ.

As a school committed to academic excellence, we believe that loving God with our minds is part of faithful discipleship. Our classrooms are not only places of intellectual growth but spaces where students are challenged to think deeply, communicate clearly, and steward their gifts for a greater purpose. We want our students to pursue truth boldly, to ask good questions, and to develop the wisdom needed to engage the world around them.

This year, through our school theme, we are centering our school culture on three intentional words: Trust. Pursue. Be Transformed. We are teaching students to trust in the Lord above all else, to pursue Him daily in every area of life, and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through His Word.

One of the most exciting examples of this vision is the launch of ‘Kingdom Athletics’, a fresh initiative that defines success in sports through the lens of Scripture. More than just a new name or branding, ‘Kingdom Athletics’ represents a foundational shift in how we view competition, leadership, and growth. It’s not about what we win, but how and why we compete.

The vision of Kingdom Athletics is simple:
“A Christ-centered approach to sports that equips students as they pursue their God-given purpose.”

At Hartfield, athletics is an extension of our Christ-centered education. Every practice, every huddle, and every post-game handshake is a chance to build character, shape leaders, and glorify God. Our coaches are mentors. Our teams are families. And while we celebrate victories, the real scoreboard we care about reflects humility, grit, and grace.

This approach, one that values both academic excellence and spiritual formation, is what makes Hartfield different. When we say that Hartfield Academy does things differently, we mean it. We’re not interested in only preparing students for college—we want to prepare them for life. And not just any life, but a life deeply rooted in their identity in Christ.

First Things First isn’t just a theme for the year. It’s a mindset.  A way of leading, learning, and becoming the people God created us to be.

At Hartfield, we believe that when we seek first the Kingdom of God, everything else will follow.
