We are so proud to celebrate a meaningful milestone for Timothy Gatewood, Director of Spiritual Formation, who has officially added “published author” to his résumé with the release of Truth Not Served by Human Hands.
In his newly released work, Dr. Gatewood explores the profound relationship between God and truth to remind readers that all truth ultimately originates from the First Truth, God Himself. At the heart of the book is a desire to clearly articulate God’s aseity, His perfect self-sufficiency and lack of need, and to show how our understanding of God’s complete knowledge shapes the way we understand truth.
Dr. Gatewood began writing the book in 2020, though the journey to publication stretched across several years marked by major life events. “You can only pause life so long while writing before it decides to catch up,” he shared. Through it all, he credits the encouragement and patience of many people, especially his wife, for helping bring the book to completion.
One of the central messages Dr. Gatewood hopes readers will take away is truly humbling: God does not need us in any way, and that is incredibly good news. Because God is perfectly complete and incorruptible, He alone can provide lasting satisfaction for the human heart. While the book engages deep theological language and concepts, Dr. Gatewood emphasizes that the goal is not simply knowledge, but worship, guiding readers toward greater affection for a God who is truth.
When asked what advice he would give Hartfield students who dream of writing or creating something meaningful in their own journey, Dr. Gatewood pointed to the importance of reading well. He encourages students to read authors who think clearly and write beautifully, reminding them that faithful creativity is shaped by thoughtful engagement with truth.
Truth Not Served by Human Hands is now available through Amazon and other major booksellers. We are grateful and proud to see the same passion for truth that fills Dr. Gatewood’s classroom now reaching a wider audience. And if you spot his book on a shelf, be sure to snap a photo and tag Hartfield on social media. We’d love to celebrate with you!
