Allison Maddock and Dr. Kim Simpson: 2026 STAR Student & Teacher

Hartfield Academy is proud to recognize Allison Maddock as the 2024–2025 STAR Student. This distinguished honor, awarded through the Mississippi Economic Council’s Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, celebrates students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and dedication. As part of this recognition, Allison selected Dr. Kim Simpson as her STAR Teacher.
Since its founding in 1965, the STAR program has highlighted the meaningful impact of both students and educators across Mississippi. Allison’s recognition is a testament to years of hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence.

“I am so thankful to be named this year’s STAR student,” Allison shared. “This honor reminds me of the value of hard work and the incredible support and encouragement I have received from teachers, family, and friends during my years at Hartfield. It represents the success I’ve always strived to achieve through consistent dedication, and I am so grateful for the endless opportunities that have been granted to me.”

Allison chose Dr. Simpson as her STAR Teacher after being in her Dual Credit Biology class during her senior year. Though their time together in the classroom was brief, the impact was lasting. “She is so passionate about what she teaches, and she truly makes such an effort to help all of her students understand biology,” Allison said. “She somehow turns the most difficult or confusing concepts into entertaining lessons that I will always remember.” Allison also expressed gratitude for Dr. Simpson’s constant encouragement and willingness to invest time in her students, noting how she challenged her to think deeply, work hard, and grow in confidence.

Dr. Simpson describes Allison as “brilliant,” highlighting not only her academic strength but also her purpose-driven mindset and determination. She recalls Allison’s ability to take on complex material with depth and creativity, including a standout project on CRISPR gene-editing technology that demonstrated both intellectual curiosity and thoughtful execution. “Allison is not simply a strong student—she is a purposeful learner,” Dr. Simpson shared. “She embraces a challenge with steady resolve and demonstrates a level of intellectual maturity that is rare.”

Being selected as Allison’s STAR Teacher held deep meaning for Dr. Simpson. After more than 25 years in education, she described the recognition as both humbling and affirming. “It is incredibly meaningful to realize that, in some small way, you are helping shape a student’s future,” she shared, emphasizing the lasting impact of investing in students academically, personally, and spiritually.

When asked about her favorite part of teaching, Dr. Simpson pointed to the opportunity to inspire curiosity and wonder through science, while also preparing students for life beyond the classroom. She views teaching as both a responsibility and a privilege, one that allows her to encourage critical thinking, perseverance, and a deeper appreciation for God’s design in creation.

For Allison, Hartfield has provided more than just an academic foundation. “My favorite part about being a student at Hartfield is being able to see the genuine love for Christ within the students and the faculty,” she said. “Being able to openly worship with my friends, go on mission trips, and learn more about our Savior every day has strengthened my walk with Christ in incredible ways.”

Allison Maddock’s recognition as STAR Student, alongside Dr. Kim Simpson as STAR Teacher, reflects Hartfield Academy, a place where academic excellence, meaningful relationships, and a Christ-centered education come together to shape students for their future.
